On November 4th and 5th, CYMS performed a play called “Scared Silly.” The director of this hilarious play was Ms. Goheen, with her assistant director Mrs. Paiva. The Scenic Designer was Mr. Decker and the consultants were Mrs. Perko and Mr. Worley! They did a wonderful job directing and managing this funny but frightful play in the 2022-2023 school year. The storytellers of this amazing play were Sierra McCleary, Syd Wibel, and Kallie Bryan. Or, as you know them, Jesse, Pat, and Denise in the play. Scene five, titled “The (Completely Inaccurate) Legend of the Mummy Witch House,” included Avery Dabb as Zach, Grace Rule as Jules, Emmalynn Barker as Amber, Sarah Luce as Captain Kathrina Whiskers, Jules Lewin as Lady Evanore, Payton Barrett as HMN Golem, and the Ensemble as Bushies! Scene six, “Forever Friends,” featured Sofia Tesfaye as Ash, Lydia Shoff as Leah, Kori Dupie as Hil, and Avery Fan as Ghost. They did a phenomenal job playing all of those entertaining scenes and we would love to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication to this school play! Thank you to the crew members for making this play come to life! The stage manager was Grace Goodrich, the assistant stage manager was Lena Nguyen, the backstage manager was Hailey Halfler, the lighting director was Honey Cruz, the sound director was Danica Billet, the co-costume supervisor was Ari Waterhouse, the co-supervisor was Harper Gray, and the props master was Peyton Mott. Interview by K. McWilliams with cast member Caitlin C. and crew member Danica B. Me: Why did you join theater? Caitlin: I started theater because my sister did it and it seemed like a fun thing to do. Me: What do you do behind the scenes? Danica: I do sound so I’m up at the sound board behind all the audience members listening to cast, waiting for my cue to hit a sound. Me: How did you learn all your lines? Caitlin: I had to practice them a lot and get used to them and I had to get used to the character and be my character. Me: What is the play about? Caitlin: It’s funny, scary stories for Halloween, but they're not actually scary but more funny. Me: Were you involved in theater in the past? Caitlin: No, this is my first year doing theater. Danica: I wasn’t but I had tried out for the high school play. Me: How do you get into your character before you're on stage? Caitlin: For me, I can kind of relate to my character a little bit, but I just think about the things that are similar between me and my character which makes it easier to be the character. Me: How did you learn to do all the lights? Danica: After we had gathered all the sound on to Mrs. Paiva’s laptop and iPad, we started working up at the sound box. Mrs. Paiva taught me how to use it at first so we knew how to do it. We had a walk through day, but during the walk through day we practiced all the sounds twice or as many times as I need to practice until I had all the cues down.

In Mr. Heisey’s science class, the students have been learning about microscopes. They went outside to collect items to look at under the microscope. Some of the things they collected included pine cones, flowers, pine needles, and even bugs. The class also got a chance to look at slides of human anatomy, such as the colon and lungs. Slides are two pieces of glass that sandwich what you want to look at under the microscope. They learned that the microscope shows the items your looking at upside down and backwards. Can you guess what some of the items are below? |
