The CYMS spelling bee is hosted on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving every year. The
spelling bee involves the top thirty spellers from CYMS. There is a test that students take a couple weeks before to see if they qualify for the spelling bee. Once they grade all the tests, the top thirty spellers choose if they want to continue on to the spelling bee. The spellers get a study guide to learn all of the given words for about two weeks. On the day of the spelling bee, all of the spellers have to wear something nice and meet in the auditorium to get prepared for the bee. We also had two practices prior to the spelling bee. On the morning of the spelling bee, we were all practicing in the auditorium and scrambling to make sure we knew everything. The bee goes on for about two hours. After half the spellers get out, they move on to a new list of words that the spellers were not aware of. It goes on until the top four spellers are left, and they qualify to take the test for states. Congratulations to this year's winners: Avery Fan in fourth, Lilly Vogt in third, Arpana Banjara in second, and Sachin Banjara in first.

Tech Ed was full of saws and paint during the last weeks of the marking period when students in Mr. Ressel's classes made rockets. This project is part of the transportation unit for 7th grade Tech Ed. First, we built the base and the fins, and then we sanded them. We added our own creative touches by painting them and prepared to see them take off! We used 60 pounds of air pressure to launch the rockets outside. It was a pretty eventful day for many of the 7th graders!
