By K. Yun On Friday, January 27th, during Fun Friday activities, a dodgeball tournament was held in the gym. The games were set up with six balls on the court and five teammates on each team. The simple rules are: (1) if you are hit anywhere from the shoulders and below you are out and stay out; (2) if you are ducking and you get hit in the head, you are out; (3) if you throw a ball and hit someone else in the head, you are out; and (4) finally, if you are hit and it bounces off of your body and one of your teammates catches it, you are still in and the thrower is out. The games were set up in an elimination style tournament. There were 31 teams and 155 players who played 61 games. The two teams that battled in the championship were Five Headed Goat and Unicorns. The Unicorns took home the gold and Team Five-Headed Goat took home second place. Thanks to all of our participants!

On Team Cougars, as well as other grade 8 teams, students are working on a disaster project in their ELA class. Students are working together as a group, and they chose their own topics as a group. Some topic choices were September 11, 2001, Pompeii, Titanic, Hurricane Katrina, Pearl Harbor, and more. Each student had to do four source cards (research information put on paper) with ten facts on each. They then will put the information into three groups. The three groups were background, causes, and effects. Students are learning how to avoid plagiarizing when they summarize or paragraph, and how to paraphrase without plagiarism. It has been interesting to learn more about many calamities throughout time. |
