Tuesday, November 21, 2023 was an exciting day for 32 spellers. There were lots of conflicting emotions like fear and glee. Behind the curtains were many fearful faces! When the curtains finally opened it was a moment of anticipation! Spellers went up one by one for their moment of fame. The bee continued for 50 rounds of words! Throughout the many rounds, spellers were eliminated, leaving just four. The top four spellers were, Alexa Welter (#31) in fourth place, Joshua Cotton (#7) in third place, Arpana Banjara (#3) in second place, and finally Sarah Kessler (#14) in first place! After the spelling bee the spellers played board games, went to the gym, had pizza, and watched a movie. Despite the many losses everyone tried their best!

During the week before winter break, Mrs. Hughes' science classes decorated cookies to resemble an animal cell. It included areas such as the cytoplasm (white icing), cell membrane (red licorice), mitochondria (chocolate chips), the nucleus (dark orb), lysosomes (sprinkles), the Golgi bodies or apparatus (gummy worms) and the endoplasmic reticulum (fruit rollups). One example is pictured below courtesy of Brayden J.
