On Team Lions, in Mrs. Hughes science class, students have been diligently working on living and nonliving observations. On October 3rd, Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Lawson combined both their science and history classes to create one group to go out in the creek for class all together. Students had the option to go into the creek to see if they could find any living or interesting things. Some students had pitchers to collect water and possibly living organisms. Each student was assigned a group to make a container of creek water, soil, leaves, and twigs. Students were also given the ability to take photos of the living and nonliving things they found. Many students found crawfish, and were given the opportunity to hold them and put them back in their environment safely. Overall, each student had a fun time out in the creek. They got to interact with the creek, animals found in the creek, and their friends from the other class.

Band Day by Isabella M.
Band Day is an unforgettable event during football season! Central York’s Band Day was on Friday, September 30th, and it was a great experience. The CYSD bands from 6th grade all the way up to the high school performed! Seeing the showcases of all the talent is so fun. Since it’s an event during a football game, it ranks high among important events such as Senior Night or Homecoming. If you didn’t attend this year’s Band Day, you should try to go next year. It’s a great opportunity to listen to the bands, and you may even hear some familiar tunes. Overall, Band Day is truly one of the best nights at the stadium that there is. Support Orchestra & Fundraiser by Natalie R. In 7th grade orchestra we are meeting days 2 and 5 and we meet during Advisory and FLEX. Right now we are currently doing a fundraiser for Joe Carli’s and Claire’s Gourmet. Participants can sell online or in-person and then deliver the items that people ordered. The amount of money students earn can be used toward a music field trip to California, or Florida. I personally think it is really fun to play the violin, so I would encourage more people to join orchestra. Plus, you get to bring the instrument home and practice which is always fun when you first start out. Of course, you don’t have to play violin. Students can also play the viola, cello, and, last but not least, the double bass. Nevertheless, I still think the violin is the best. Chorus Rehearsals by Sophie H. Chorus is a very interesting and fun in-school activity. Ms. Perko always warms up chorus members with some singing exercises. Group members start with the song “Light a Candle” and then move to “The Bells on Christmas Day.” Another Christmas song we sing is called “A Marshmallow World,” and that one is super jazzy! Ms. Perko always plays along on her upright piano to help the whole choir stay on beat. Ms. Perko works very hard for us to be a fun, beautiful choir. That’s why chorus is my favorite place to be! |
