"Earth Is Sick" by Sole (Published November 2019)
What comes to mind when you think of the word sick?
I think of earth, how blacks and whites still fight. How discriminate is not right. How boys and girls are being forced into marriage. How little kids are in poverty.
How my brothers as young as 12 are doing and selling drugs. How my sisters as young as 13 are having babies. But no, we don’t do anything about it we say “It’s not my problem” or “I don’t care.”
I care.
I don’t want blacks and whites to fight. I don’t want discrimination to be right. I don’t want boys and girls to be forced into marriage.
I don’t want my young sisters to have babies and I definitely don’t want you to say “It’s not my problem” or “I don’t care.”
Earth is sick let’s change it and make it better for our future.

"The Best Game in the World" by Kylie (Published November 2019)
The sweat dripping down your
face.
You’re running up and down the long basketball court
as you feel
the little bumps on the basketball hitting
your hand.
The fans hit your ears as they’re
cheering your name on the stands
as you’re going in for a lay-up.
You shoot the ball at the corner of the square
and you either miss or you don’t,
but you learn.
You learn the importance of what you did
right and what you did wrong.
No matter what anybody thinks,
or says,
you can be great or you can be bad.
You can be ANYTHING!
It doesn’t matter what
you do on the court, as long
as you have fun and learn.
I know it’s fun because I played
for 6 years and achieved winning
the championships last year in 6th
grade.
I learned how to play every year,
and achieved it by practicing and practicing
and getting better and no matter how hard it was.
I kept my head up.
It is a awesome and active game.
If you don’t want to become a professional,
that’s fine.
Just have some fun!
I am a little competitive.
I might be kind off the court,
but on the court I start to get
aggressive.
Last year when I played basketball,
one game is was fighting for the ball,
and fell on the ground trying to get it!
It was the playoffs!
We may not be professionals,
but we won the championships against an UNDEFEATED team!
You might not be the best, but anything can happen!
Basketball!

"Her Name Was" by Precious (Published November 2019)
Everybody called her ugly and she was sure. People even called her poor. She didn’t want to feel this pain anymore. Up and down she always ended up with a frown. Crying, crying, and crying but she never knew she’ll be flying, flying, and flying. Her heart turned to ice, she will not remain nice. No matter what she kept calm. Her mistakes were still bloody on her palm. Her nickname was depressed, her middle name was pain, but her name was... STRONG.
"He Is" by Precious (Published November 2019)
Her name was strong, but something was always wrong. Her sadness in her life mostly replayed and stayed like a song. She had a friend, he's at the cemetery, all the way at the end. Some days they would meet, anybody who could see him would have had cold feet. Strong always felt invisible, but, when she's around him, she's visible. He never would talk or even walk. The most important thing, more priceless than a diamond ring, is that he listened. Even though the song of her life was sad, he always was a happy beat to it. Strong had to go, she wished the night could be more slow. She kissed the grave, and gave a wave even though he is ... dead.
"The Wolf Cat" by Ara (Published November 2019)
A cat like no other, it has the looks of a miniature wolf,
It fits perfectly in with Halloween, some say this cat is a werewolf
Shaggy patches of fur like night
Golden eyes that glow so bright
The look of a wolf the characteristics of a dog
The Intelligence of a cat, that makes me write this weird blog
Halloween is nearing, so when you see that cat like solute in the clearing
Don’t be fearing because it may be disappearing from the silent clearing

"The Real Things" by Alissa (Published November 2019)
“This is an outrage”
Kids go home and cry in pain
Because…
We can’t seem to treat them the right way
We call them ugly and sometimes gay
It makes me scared of the day
They don’t come back to school the next day
And the news says
“They were bullied their last days”
And thinking we took a life today
But we’re not being blamed
It’s like a game
Manipulating their brains
I didn’t do the right thing
Scared to sleep
“Sorry,” they’ll say
A voice quiet yet deep
“Forgiveness you seek, you shall never repeat”
And again and again we never ceases
But our heart says stop, because it’s about to decrease
It’s called suicide
And it’s a real thing but, we don’t seem to believe
That they weren’t weak
They listened to you week after week.

"Locket" by Shay (Published November 2019)
Little girl had a locket,
She usually kept it in her pocket.
Since others would laugh and tease,
She hid it with ease.
Little girl was walking home,
The other kids began to roam.
Little girl checked her pocket.
Inside, there was no locket.
She turned fast around to see,
Other kids laughing with glee.
They held her locket over the river,
It made little girl shiver.
Her heart felt a poke,
When she realized this wasn’t a joke.
The family memories were lost, it’s true,
For little girl watched it fall into rivers blue.
Locket.

"On Halloween Night" by Lydia (Published November 2019)
Come with me you’ll have a fright,
Ghosts and Goblins will be in sight
Here on Halloween night.
The witch will have her broom,
Flying over the moon with its light
The vampire in its casket,
With his capes in his basket,
Here on Halloween night.
The skeletons with their elegance,
The carved pumpkin who we know as Jack,
With its knack at glowing bright,
Here on Halloween night.
On Halloween night,
Spiders go crawling
Werewolves go clawing,
Skeletons will bite,
And goblins will fight,
Here on Halloween night.
The zombies will be big,
And when you dig,
What will you find,
Hopefully if will be kind,
For tonight is Halloween night!
What could you find that would give you a fright?
Ghosts and Goblins will be in sight
Here on Halloween night.
The witch will have her broom,
Flying over the moon with its light
The vampire in its casket,
With his capes in his basket,

"Dreams Do Come True" by La'Zena (Published November 2019)
I had a dream, my parents were here
They held me tight and said in my ear
That they love me, and no they’ll never leave me
But then I woke up out that horrible dream
And saw my life was exactly the same
My parents left me
No one can heal the pain that I feel
Please tell me why you left me
Why did they leave me
My dad never tucked me and kissed me goodnight
My mom never held me and hugged me so tight
I just want my mom and dad in my life
I swear
-The girl

"Fabulous Fall" by Emily (Published November 2019)
Leaves are crunching on the ground,
Fire crackling, such a sound
Lots of candy being sold,
Ghosts are roaming, so be told
Pumpkins spread across the town,
Leaves are drifting, up and down
Pumpkin spice made for delight,
Will creepies and crawlies be in your sight?

Lots of candy being sold,
Ghosts are roaming, so be told

"My Evening Was a Poem" by Shriya (Published November 2019)
The sidewalk makes a slight thump
As my foot touches the ground
My dogs’ bare paws crinkle
As he steps onto the ground
As I walk down my street
In the brightness of the evening
The other dog glare as we walk by
Exchanging many barks and glares although
Silent through our eyes
All at the end of the day
In the light of evening
My dog walks daintily even though he jumps
He manages to do so without even a thump
Not missing a beat to sniff the scents
of the ground that stayed here for so many years
All as we walk down the street
In the brightness of evening
As we pass by the many cars
Who zoom by us like a NASCAR
We run back home and play around
All in the brightness of evening
I climb a tree my dog runs around
I do a flip my dog twirls around
My mom calls us in and we both run
What fun I had in the evening walk
Oh, how I wish this day
Could just stay this way
In the brightness of evening
As my foot touches the ground
My dogs’ bare paws crinkle
As he steps onto the ground
As I walk down my street
In the brightness of the evening
The other dog glare as we walk by
Exchanging many barks and glares although

"Raw Emotion" by Imani (Published November 2018)
Teardrops fall from the “doors to my souls” as my eyes tear up and shed one tear and many more to come. As my tears are running down my face, my hands and fingers wipe away the tears as my very own wind wipers. As my hands and fingers or exposed to this new emotion that has yet to come but more to take away than ever before.
"Morning Love" by Belma (Published March 2019)
The sun has risen
As the birds have spoke
The snow glisten
As the air hold smoke
Your morning eyes
Squint as they see
The suns light beaming
Through the branches of the dead oak tree
Shiver with cold
Blanket over your shoulders
The day not yet old
But getting colder and colder
Tea hot and ready
Sugar sprinkled from above
Hold the cup steady
As it's filled with morning love
As the birds have spoke
The snow glisten
As the air hold smoke
Your morning eyes
Squint as they see
The suns light beaming
Through the branches of the dead oak tree
Shiver with cold
Blanket over your shoulders
The day not yet old
But getting colder and colder
Tea hot and ready
Sugar sprinkled from above
Hold the cup steady
As it's filled with morning love
"Broken" by Melanie (Published April 2019)
When you choose to love someone who is broken...
you take on the weight of
Their past
Their pain
Their guilt
All of their flaws
You have to be strong
You have to be patient
You can stop the bleeding
And help them scar over
But they will always
No matter what...
Be somewhat broken
If you can handle that...
and you can accept all the dents and cracks...
if you can get them to trust you...
You will never find a better ally than one who...
Is broken
Above all else: they know about survival
After all they are still here... wondering if
Someone like you will
Or could...
ever love them.
you take on the weight of
Their past
Their pain
Their guilt
All of their flaws
You have to be strong
