On Team R, we have a different schedule than everyone else. It’s called a block schedule. A block schedule is when we have on-team teachers in the morning for longer periods and specials in the afternoon. We also have certain days that we alternate team teachers. For example, we have a whole block of math and ELA everyday for about 80 minutes, then we switch for history and science. For history we have a block on days 1, 3, and 5, and then we alternate with science on days 2, 4, and 6. On a block schedule, we have three blocks and then it’s lunch. We then have specials. Some of us have digital age on odd days and gym on even days, but for other kids it’s flipped. In the end, all of us on Team R have learned how to get through a block schedule. Being on Team R, I have learned that our team is very unique and very fun to be on. Unfortunately not everyone knows that. Over the past few days, I have interviewed three Team R students that gave me very interesting feedback about how much they love being on Team R.
One of the students I interviewed was Amber D. She says, “My favorite thing about being on Team R is the teachers.” This is relatable because Team R has such incredible teachers, that help us achieve the highest standards we possibly can. Though each of the Team R teachers have unique qualities that they can offer, they all have one common goal: helping students learn as much as they can. Adding on to the favorite things about Team R, I asked Amber what her favorite class was. “My favorite class is probably history because we get food.” Lastly, I asked Amber if there was anything that was different or outstanding about this year from past years. “The teachers are much different,” is what Amber told me. I agree with this because in past years, teachers have treated us more like children, and this year, because we are in middle school, we have more independence. Another student I interviewed was Chris D. His viewpoint of his favorite things on Team R was, “The teachers are great, and I like hanging out with friends.” Chris seemed to agree with Amber about the wonderful teachers, but a new idea of having great friends on Team R was brought to light. On Team R, it is easy to make friends because we have some very interesting kids and students with very original personalities. When I asked Chris what his favorite class was, he told me, “Science because the teacher is funny and nice, and I like the subject itself.” This is also a common opinion with kids on Team R. Science class is a favorite because we have a lot of new information to learn, and now that we are older, we can do more experiments, labs, and have more fun in class! The last question I asked Chris was what was different and outstanding about Team R, to which he replied, “I get better grades.” I have found that it is easier for me, and other students to get better grades, because in middle school, we have a larger system to check grades, and stay on top of assignments. In addition to that, our teachers help us be responsible with grades because we have CLC grade check-ins, Lunch and Learns (when you get academic help from a teacher), and teachers are very approachable when we need help. The last student I interviewed was Maddy S. “My favorite thing about Team R is that I have a lot of friends.” Maddy seemed to agree with Amber. When I asked what her favorite class was, she replied, “Math because Ms. Heiser is there.” Relating back to what Amber originally told me, the teachers make Team R a lot better. Lastly, Maddy told me that, “Team R is outstanding because the teachers are enthusiastic in what they do.” I know a lot of classmates feel this way too. The Team R teachers really seem to care about what they do, the students have interesting personalities, and there are many fun thing about Team R. I believe that this is what makes our team unique and makes me Panther Proud. |
