The book Eragon, a lot of people read it and loved it! I remember the first time I read it. I started reading Eragon because I was bored out of my mind with other books! But as I submerged into the first couple chapters the book captured my attention. The book told about a boy living with his cousin and Uncle. He was considered Son of none and his mother left him when he was just a baby, but the movie Eragon changes certain events, like his Uncle Garrow’s last breath! They likewise transformed the looks of the characters as well! One of the first differences I noticed was that the movie makers reformed the part about Saphira’s egg! Where Eragon takes the egg to Merlock a trader that sells jewelry. Instead in the movie Eragon experiments on Saphira’s egg himself! In conclusion for today they remake a lot about this book. It even messes up different events throughout the series! Have you read Eragon?

Okay one question has anyone read the Lunar Chronicles? About an evil queen that lives on the moon and throughout the series, the main character Cinder is trying to get the evil queen off the throne. I’m not going to spoil too much … but anyway I’m writing this to talk about the characters… What specifically you ask? Well mostly I’m going to talk about sides or opinions…
Now everyone who’s read the Lunar chronicles knows this one person called Cinder. A character who is strong willed and good of heart. Cinder a Luner (Yes that’s one of the spoilers) when she finds this out and uses her power of course she first thinks that her powers were awful. But as her life goes on, she finds out that this power is like a crutch for all lunar who use it. Once you use it, it’s hard to stop using it. Then she’s also part cyborg so people would really hate her if they found out she was Luner too. In the book Cinder she meets the prince of the eastern commonwealth. Of course throughout this book they start to fall in love even though they don’t necessarily know it. But at the end of the book Cinder when Kai finds out Cinder is part cyborg and Lunar Kai says, “You're even more painful to look at than her.” And if you don’t know who her is her is the evil queen of Luna that manipulates people. Kai hates the evil queen also known as Levanna so you can imagine how much this hurts Cinder. Me and my friend have this argument all the time…. Which character kinda deserves more pity at least that’s what I call it… She’s on Cinder’s side since Kai said, “You're even more painful to look at than her.” And she thinks that Kai was acting like a jerk to Cinder an I agree…. only a little… I honestly am torn between the two but I’m leaning towards Prince Kai’s side since he feels like he doesn’t know Cinder anymore. I mean imagine growing up hating cyborgs and Lunars. Then one day you meet this person you like and they are secretly a cyborg. Of course you don’t know this. Then one day they also find out they are part Lunar and they still doesn’t tell you… Then when you invite her to a party you find out the person you like is cyborg and Lunar! You probably will feel betrayed! I mean you thought you knew this person! Then on top of all of that they are now a criminal! How would you feel towards that person then…. Who would you choose Cinder or Kai? Drama and action are some of the thrilling things in J.k. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I recently read the 5th book in the Harry Potter series Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This time I will be focusing more on the characters in this story as there are many great ones. J. K. Rowling did a excellent job of creating all these characters that each are different and loved in their own way.
First I wanted to talk about Harry the main protagonist he is experiencing a lot of emotion throughout this book. At the beginning he is stuck at privet drive but nobody is telling him anything about what is happening in the wizard world. He eventually gets picked up by the order to go to the orders headquarters where he stays the rest of the summer. When he gets to Hogwarts everyone thinks he is a lier that Lord Voldemort is back and he again has an awful year. He gets mad, sad, stressed, happy and relieved throughout this book I feel very bad for Harry and everything he has to go through especially at the end when tragic things happen and he learns why he lived that night when Voldemort tried to kill him. Now I want to talk about his best friends Ron and Hermione. They both always have Harry’s back when he needs it and both are worried for him to have to deal with all those terrible things that keep happening. I personally believe they also got frightened when Harry started to act angry all the time but they only give him support. They were both with him to try to fight off the Death eaters in the Department of mysteries but both got injuries in the process and had to stay in the hospital wing for a few days. Overall they are great friends to Harry and help him no matter what. We are introduced to new characters too like their new defense against the dark arts teacher Professor Umbridge who is very cruel and try’s to act like she is being sweet but she is very far from that. We also get introduced to Luna Lovegood who at first seems kind of annoying but is actually in the end a great friend as Luna also helps in the fight at the department of mysteries. We see Neville become more confident and skilled as he too also helps in the fight which is unexpected. Another person who I would like to point out is Ginny Ron’s younger sister who also helps in the fight. She becomes more independent and also starts to actually have conversations with Harry whom before she could barely spit out a sentence too. All the characters that are in Harry Potter are ones to remember and all have their own personality my personal favorite being Hermione because of her brilliance and kindness towards everyone she cares for. I enjoyed reading this book and will continue reading the rest of the series this year. Harry Potter is a wonderful fantasy and I hope people will read it. Imagine this you have just lost your parents your put int the care of a horrible man there is no place for your to flee what would you do? This beautiful plot slowly unfolds as you read through the books from The Series Of Unfortunate Events, written by one of my favorite authors Lemony Snicket.
Lemony describes and slowly makes you understand the the 4 main characters as you turn page after page. Violet is the oldest of the orphans who is the inventor who can make something out of anything. She has a very interesting habit that Lemony describes where she uses some type of ribbon to tie up her hair and it helps here think. Although Violet usually keeps her hair down it is habits like these that make Lemony’s writing so unique. Klaus is the middle child who is the “reader” of the orphans Lemony describes Klaus in a way that may make you think that he knows everything. When referring to Klaus as the “reader I mean that he reads a lot of books. Lemony portrays Klaus as a character who could curl up sonewhere and read all day. Sunny is the youngest of the orphans and loves to bite things. Lemony gives Sunny a unique trait which is that she can’t talk. But she babbles the only people who can actually understand these babbles are her two siblings. Lastly Count Olaf is the villain of the story and is out to steal the orphans fortune. I can’t really tell you anymore otherwise I would be completely destructing the excitement of this lovely story. Which can also be what I would like to think of as a little depressing. But I will tell you this, In his many attempts to steal the orphans fortune Lemony takes you through a rollercoaster with lots of twists and turns and plots that unfold in such a delicate way. No matter where the orphans go it seems that Count Olaf follows. But the orphans smarts and different discoveries always help them get through the vicious attacks. Lemony describes Lemony Snicket describes Count Olaf’s attempts in such a way that you will get goose bumps. One of my favorite lines from the book is “I know it’s Count Olaf he has the same twinkle in his eyes.” I feel as though Lemony’s way of describing is different than any other author since he uses different words and different styles What are the current trends in fashion, music, and the world of entertainment?

March 14th is one of the best days for our wonderful CYMS math teachers. Why? Well, because March 14th is national Pi Day. Pi, otherwise known as 3.14, is a math number used to find the circumference of any circle. Many 8th and 7th graders, if not all of us, use pi very often in math class. Our very own Team H math teacher, Miss Paiva, held a Pi Day for our team on this day because it was so special to her. When the students arrived in class on March 14th, they were all greeted with a very felicitous Miss Paiva and an abundance of different exciting activities that had to do with pi. Some of these activities included word scrambles, crossword puzzles, and card games that were made to be Pi Day related. The card game was like UNO but instead of laying cards down to match colors or suits, students had to put cards down in the order of the digits of pi: 3.14159265 etc... Miss Paiva also handed out Pi Day worksheets where all of the students could show what they learned about pi throughout the year and answer fun questions (see picture below). Another great activity that she had set out was a pi chain. The pi chain was basically different colored pieces of construction paper laid out with numbers above them. Students would take the designated numbers of pi and staple colored loops of the construction paper together in the order of Pi. When we finished we had over a hundred numbers of pi done and we hung the chain around the math room walls. It was a fun class to celebrate this meaningful math day! By Maslyn S. The 7th graders on team H have been working hard on their history projects. The project evolved around the four major Chinese dynasties: Shang( 1750-1045 BC), Zhou(1045-256 BC), Qin(221-206 BC), Han(202-220 BC). We found the main information on each dynasty and included descriptions and illustrations of these powerful families in leadership. The project was very fun and sure gave our brain a good workout. The foldable projects displayed in the hall were the best of the best and were done to perfection for our eyes to feast on. We welcome you to stop and gaze on our projects we have on display for all to see.

All of my brothers have been on Team P, but I’m the first to be on Team H. So far, it’s great. It’s probably better than any other team. All of the teachers are super nice, and with lots of other students to help you along, Team H is the perfect team. Something very unique about Team H is that half of the students are in 7th grade, and half are in 8th grade. We have two language arts teachers, Mrs. Carlisle, who teaches primarily 8th graders, and Ms. Goheen, who teaches 7th graders. We also have our history teacher, Mr. Miller, our math teacher Ms. Paiva, and our science teacher, Ms. Borsa. I spoke to our teachers to get their opinions about the teaching on Team H. Mrs. Carlisle had this to say about Team H: “I love that we have some of the same students for two years, because we get to watch them grow academically.” Our science teacher, Ms. Borsa has this to say: “I love the diversity of having two different grade levels.” Our history teacher, Mr. Miller, said, “What I like about Team H is that it’s unique because it has both 7th graders and 8th graders." Our math teacher, Ms. Paiva, explained “I love that we get 7th and 8th graders. I love to see how everyone matured over two years.” The 7th grade language arts teacher, Ms. Goheen, said this: “I love having both grades, because I get to experience both curriculums, and I also like how I get to see the students grow.” As you can see, our teachers love to see us grow over the years. None of the 8th graders have classes with the 7th graders, and vice-versa, but we still all help each other out. Sometimes, during language arts, some 8th graders go to Ms. Goheen’s room, and some 7th graders come to Mrs. Carlisle, so both classes are merged for a period. During flex, students can also help each other out by choosing the same flex. As you can see, Team H is a great team to be on. We have awesome teachers and great students, and our motto, H.E.A.T., which stands for Honesty, Effort, Attitude, and Teamwork, pushes us to do our best in school. For a recent Language Arts assignment, we had been covering different calamities and catastrophes that had taken place throughout history. We were to write a ballad of our previously chosen assignment. Once we had written our lines, we had to record ourselves speaking/singing/rapping our ballad over a beat. Many things went into making my song. Writing the actual lyrics was by far the longest part. The process took several days of class work. After that came the music. I wanted my song to be gradual and solemn, yet still have some momentum and beat to it. After trying many different combinations, I settled for the one you hear now. I then recorded myself speak-singing (not very well) my song over the beat. The final product ended up like this. Take a listen. - Ian |
